Data corruption is the unintentional change of a file or the loss of info that often occurs during reading or writing. The reason can be hardware or software fail, and because of this, a file may become partially or fully corrupted, so it will no longer function correctly because its bits shall be scrambled or lacking. An image file, for example, will no longer show an accurate image, but a random mix of colors, an archive will be impossible to unpack because its content will be unreadable, and so on. In case such a problem appears and it's not recognized by the system or by an administrator, the data will be corrupted silently and in case this happens on a disk drive that's part of a RAID array where the data is synced between various different drives, the corrupted file shall be reproduced on all the other drives and the harm will be long term. A large number of popular file systems either do not have real-time checks or do not have good ones that can detect a problem before the damage is done, so silent data corruption is a rather common problem on web hosting servers where substantial amounts of data are stored.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Cloud Hosting
If you host your Internet sites in a cloud hosting account from our firm, you won't have to worry about your data ever getting corrupted. We can guarantee that as our cloud hosting platform uses the advanced ZFS file system. The latter is the only file system which uses checksums, or unique digital fingerprints, for every single file. All info that you upload will be saved in a RAID i.e. simultaneously on many different SSD drives. All file systems synchronize the files between the separate drives with such a setup, but there is no real warranty that a file will not get corrupted. This could occur throughout the writing process on any drive and then a corrupted copy can be copied on all other drives. What makes the difference on our platform is that ZFS analyzes the checksums of all files on all drives in real time and in case a corrupted file is discovered, it's replaced with a good copy with the correct checksum from another drive. In this way, your data will remain unharmed no matter what, even if a whole drive fails.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Semi-dedicated Hosting
We have avoided any possibility of files getting damaged silently as the servers where your semi-dedicated hosting account will be created employ a powerful file system named ZFS. Its main advantage over alternative file systems is that it uses a unique checksum for every single file - a digital fingerprint that's checked in real time. As we save all content on multiple SSD drives, ZFS checks whether the fingerprint of a file on one drive matches the one on the rest of the drives and the one it has saved. In case there is a mismatch, the bad copy is replaced with a healthy one from one of the other drives and because it happens in real time, there is no chance that a corrupted copy can remain on our hosting servers or that it can be duplicated to the other hard drives in the RAID. None of the other file systems employ such checks and what's more, even during a file system check after an unexpected electrical power failure, none of them will detect silently corrupted files. In contrast, ZFS does not crash after an electrical power failure and the constant checksum monitoring makes a lenghty file system check obsolete.
